The final workshop of the GreenStep Cities workshop series focused on Climate Resiliency with examples of tools and planning cities could employ to prepare themselves for changes.

Doug Pierce of Perkins & Will described a new approach to building - Resilient Design.  Doug described the new Resilence Action List (RELi-pronounced rely) a balloted, pilot phase consensus standard designed to complement and inform existing leadership programs such as LEED ND, Sustainability Building (SB) 2030, and MN GreenStep Cities.

The workshop series covered topics such as building energy benchmarking, community solar, urban forestry, solid waste, and stormwater.

Most of the workshops have blogs that include the presentations and recorded webinars and can be accessed on the Great Plains Institute website located here.

We have already scheduled the 2015-2016 workshops to take place September 2015 - June 2016 9am to 11am on the second Tuesday of the month at the League of Minnesota Cities.

The workshop series was followed by the League of MN Cities annual conference, with GreenStep Cities focused workshops. Also, on June 26, 2015 a breakfast was held featuring Paul Douglas as the keynote speaker followed by a group photo and award recognition and photos for all of the Cities…83 and a Tribal Nation in total and growing!

The League of Minnesota Cities Annual Conference also marked the five year anniversary of the launch of GreenStep Cities in 2010 at the same conference.

Additionally, at the conference this year the League awarded $1000 award to a city for their Sustainability efforts. The inagural award recipient was the City of Oakdale.  Jennifer Hassebroek is pictured with Philipp Muessig, GreenStep Cities co-director and myself with their GreenStep Cities award and the Sustainable Cities Award.
