Conventional Biofuel Innovation

The United States is the world’s largest producer of biofuels, like ethanol and biodiesel. Most of that production is concentrated in the Midwest. Just like any industry, biofuel producers have been adopting a range of process improvements to reduce energy use and productions costs. Biofuels producers have also been implementing new technology strategies that not only reduce energy costs, but also decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Many Midwestern biofuel facilities have implemented new technologies practices and process improvements, resulting in overall smaller production footprint. Great Plains Institute is partnering with biofuels producers, technologies suppliers and academic institutions to document these production improvements and develop new strategies to increase adoption rate at existing facilities.
