Midwestern Transmission Infrastructure Advancement

This project, in collaboration with the Midwestern Governor’s Association (MGA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), focuses on outreach, communication and education efforts to support electric transmission infrastructure development in the Midwest. This work is done in partnership with MGA to support the MGA goals of economic development, jobs and maintaining an efficient electricity market in the Midwest. GPI works with key stakeholders to identify and establish consensus on the importance of a robust transmission infrastructure to the Midwest and also increase understanding of the importance of transmission to a changing electric generation portfolio.    Decision makers we work with include governors’ energy policy staff, state regulators, Regional Transmission Operators (RTO’s), electric utilities and transmission owners. GPI also co-hosts an annual MGA transmission conference to discuss national and regional transmission issues and highlight accomplishments in the region and meets regularly with FERC commissioners, FERC policy staff and US DOE transmission experts to update them on progress in the Midwest.
