Private Investment in Energy Efficiency

GPI is working to increase private investment in commercial and industrial energy efficiency in Minnesota.  Despite Minnesota’s leadership at the policy level and with utility programs, energy efficiency projects in the state remain highly dependent on limited utility rebate programs.

This work has multiple strategies, including:

  • Assisting cities in exploring and adopting policies and programs to encourage transparency in energy use and greater efficiency in commercial buildings.
  • Increasing the accessibility of financing by working directly with cities and local governments to match project needs with applicable financing tools.
  • Partnered with Harcourt Brown & Carey Energy & Finance to assist the Minnesota Department of Commerce Energy Resource Division to gather stakeholder input and develop recommendations on financing models to increase investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy in the commercial and industrial sectors.
  • Assisting local business associations to develop energy efficiency outreach programs for their members.
