Sustainable Communities Regional Collaboration

From 2010 – 2012 GPI facilitated a network of sustainable community practitioners from Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.  We are collaborating with leaders from Sustainable Jersey to identify the best way to expand this collaboration nation-wide.   The shared goal of the three-state collaboration is to improve the lives of residents through community-based solutions that build local economies, improve the environment, and enhance quality of life.

Each state has programs that address community challenges such as buildings, land use, environmental management, transportation issues, and economic and community development, and aim to accelerate the adoption of community best practices.

The group shares resources, best practices, evaluation results, and the most effective technical assistance and program models.  Participants include state agencies, University Extension, USDA Rural Development, non-profit technical assistance providers, and community sustainability coordinators and local elected officials.
